| its more of an operetta than a musical. its not the sound of music and its not Rodgers and Hammerstein. and it isn't Victor Hugo.
It turns introspective exploring the characters and personalities, instead of the struggle for justice and freedom.
In the original work, it leaves it up to the reader to find sympathy with the characters. while in this movie it is explained to a point of redundancy why their lifes have made them so miserable.torturing the viewer to a point where I wish to escape.
In the book I identified with Valjean's struggles to find justice. He was always a good person but he was misunderstood and judged by a system that lacked fairness. The play or movie skips the reason why he was inprisoned and how useless it was for those who were not in a social class to find fairness and equal oportunity with no civil rights.
when the main message from the book was a struggle of the classless people for "bread, land and liberty", it is lost in this play. |

| the first time we tried to watch this it wouldnt play properly , had to slid the play bar across to the end and then play it again , then what can i say a fabulous film weepy too x

| Arrgh was so sick of hugh jackman's horrible singing by the end and the role of cossette sung by a goat bleeting voice. That was a shameful cast for such a powerful play!! Jackman needs his wolverine role not a singing role. |
