| This is a film about two sets of parents who meet to discuss a bullying incident between their two 11 year old sons, but end up re-enacting the aggressive confrontation their sons had on the playground. Most plays shouldn't be made into films because as films they feel too claustrophobic and lackluster, and 'Carnage' is no exception. Polanski did nothing to adapt the play into a film. There are some great actors in this movie, but they were wasted. The acting would have been fine on a stage with feedback from an audience, and where we don't have to experience the drama in close-up, but up close with a camera it somehow managed to be both energy-less and melodramatic at the same time. Polanski has made some great films and some duds, and this one is a dud. I gave it two stars - for the script and the set, both of which were good. |
